The K-9 teams were created to assist law enforcement personnel to track suspects, search for articles or evidence of a crime, conduct building searches, assist in the arrest or apprehension of felons, search for lost persons, and detect the presence of narcotics. The Sebastian County Sheriff Department K-9 teams are certified through Canine Standards International in the detection of cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, ecstasy and Heroin. They are also certified in obedience and handler protection. In addition, both are nationally certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA). The K-9 teams service to the community and their fellow officers has proven to be invaluable.
